    Course details

    The primary objective of this course is to equip participants with the knowledge to work safely in a variety of workplaces and to comply with the competency requirements laid down in the Safety Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005. The course seeks to furnish participants with a good basic knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), outlining what is required to provide a safe place of work. The NISO Introduction to Occupational Health & Safety programme is a multidisciplinary programme covering the important aspects related to the safe operation of all types of businesses and organisations. The aim of the programme is to provide the participants with the knowledge and skills to manage Occupational Safety and Health, to enable them to communicate safety and health information to peers and supervisors and to advise management on a range of occupational safety and health issues in the workplace. It also gives the participants the necessary tools to help promote a culture of safety and health in the workplace.

    Entry Requirement

    There are no formal entry requirements. The course is suitable for: persons wishing to obtain a general introduction to health and safety in the workplace; persons wishing to expand and update their knowledge including directors of SMEs; production managers; safety representatives; safety committee members; any persons with responsibility for health and safety; any persons interested in health and safety.

    Examinations

    Learners wishing to receive the NISO certification must complete an assignment and sit a written exam at the end of the programme (week 13). Students who successfully complete the requirements of all modules and assessments will be awarded the NISO Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

    Irish Law, Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, Risk Management, Safety Management, Fire Safety Emergency Planning and First Aid, Ergonomics, Physical Hazards, Chemical Safety, Psychosocial Hazards, Occupational health, Construction Safety, Accident Causation and Investigation, Agriculture Safety.
