Course details
The IRATA Level 3 rope access course is an advanced course for candidates who already have an IRATA Level 2 certificate and possess the required work experience. The candidate must be an IRATA Level 2 technician with a minimum of 12 months and 1000 hours of work experience as a Level 2 rope access technician (verified by their IRATA logbook). It is required that technicians are fully competent in all IRATA Level 2 techniques and using these techniques regularly in their daily work, before an application is made for IRATA Level 3 training and assessment. It is also recommended that technicians gain an awareness of rope access rigging, rescue and rope access equipment used at IRATA Level 3 – this awareness should be gained through the workplace and/or by reading the IRATA International Code of Practice. ARCH is approved by IRATA International as a Full Trainer & Full Operator Company. IRATA rope access training is delivered at our Lisnaskea venue which includes a 23M external tower and indoor training areas. IRATA rope access training courses are also available at our Belfast and Republic of Ireland training facilites for group bookings of 4 or more persons.
Course Syllabus
To equip the participant with the skills and knowledge:
- To be capable of site safety supervision for rope access projects;
- To be conversant with relevant work techniques and legislation;
- To demonstrate the manoeuvres, skills and knowledge required of IRATA Levels 1 and 2 technicians;
- To complete advanced rescue techniques and rescue management (advanced rescue, tensioned ropes, short link, rescue in descent passing a knot, breaking into tight rope, large re-belay);
- To undertake pre-use equipment inspection, and have an awareness of equipment management;
- To complete method statements and risk assessments;
- To be knowledgeable of the IRATA certification scheme, and the IRATA Code of Practice.

Practical and written assessment by IRATA assessor over 1 day
Certification
IRATA International Level 3 certificate valid for 3 years from assessment date.

Pre-requisites
Those attending IRATA rope access training should be medically fit to carry out the practical part of the course and free from medical contra-indications that may prevent them from working safely at height (A list of conditions that could affect practical training and work at height is available on request). IRATA level 3 course participants will be required to self-certify their medical and physical fitness before commencement of the course. Participants should be aged 18 years or over.
