Course details
This subject introduces students to the fundamentals of English in the areas of speaking, listening and writing and the content spans use of English relevant to hotels, travel agents and other tourism organisations.Students will be exposed to local knowledge of the city, food and culture.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the programme, students will be able to:
- Use language with correct and appropriate grammar
- Use vocabulary that is appropriate to the context of the hospitality industry.
- Write memorandum reports, book and movie reviews, biographies and resumes.
- Make clear and effective presentations
- Explain the aspects of the localculture and practices in Singapore

Entry Requirements
Singaporeans and PRs
- Minimum age of 16 years old
- Successfully completed minimum 10 years of formal education
- Minimum score of 30 in the SHATEC English Test
- Successful interview
Admission Interview
The interview component allows us to assess students’ suitability as an applicant against our education philosophy as well as the industry. It is also a good opportunity for students to speak to our trainers, share their concerns and gain insights into challenges of the industry
Assessment Framework
Students will be appraised through practical exercises, presentations, written assignments and projects.
Graduation Requirements
Students must successfully complete the 5 subjects within the stipulated period of study as set by SHATEC.
Certification
Upon successfully completion of the course, students will be awarded the Certificate in Hospitality English by SHATEC.

About Shatec Institutes
