Course details
The aim of this course is to help students communicate effectively and confidently in English by developing the students’ reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. It is offered to students who want to have a good basic foundation in English and to have the ability to communicate in English in everyday situations and purposes related to school, social life, work and leisure.
At the end of the course, students will be able to conjugate and use many regular and irregular verbs, hold basic conversation and construct simple five-sentence paragraphs.
What will I learn?
At the end of the programme, the student will be able to:
- Speak and listen to explore, elucidate, and contemplate on their thoughts, ideas, feelings, and experiences at the beginner level
- Communicate information and ideas effectively and clearly, and to respond personally and critically
- Express themselves in speech using a range of vocabulary and grammatical structures
- Read and respond with understanding to a range of visual texts at the beginner level
- Interpret, select, and combine information using a variety of strategies and resources
- Write to explore, and reflect on their thoughts, feelings and experiences
- Use a range of strategies to develop effective writing
Course Outline
Listening and Speaking (Beginner Level)
Listening and Speaking is intended for students taking the course Certificate in Communicative English – Beginner Level. The module is aimed at international students who are not native speakers of English and with a non-English medium background who wish to enhance their listening and speaking skills in order to maximise their communicative competence in everyday life.
Reading and Writing (Beginner Level)
Reading and Writing is intended for students taking the course Certificate in Communicative English – Beginner Level. The module is aimed at international students who are not native speakers of English and with a non-English medium background who wish to enhance their reading and writing skills in order to maximise their communicative competence in everyday life.
Certificate Conferring Body
Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded the Certificate in Communicative English (Beginner Level) Certificate by Mirror D’ International College.
Entry Requirements
- There is no formal minimum education and language proficiency required.
- Students should be of a minimum of 15 years of age to be eligible for the course.
Students who do not meet the minimum entry requirement will be required to undergo an entrance test at MDI.
Graduation Requirement
Candidates should obtain at least 50% for each of the two modules to be awarded a pass certificate in Communicative English for the respective level.
Manner of Assessment
Class Participation - 10%
Project / Assignments - 20%
Written / Oral examination - 70%
