The aim of this course is to provide practical advice and support on providing for the nutritional needs of people in their last year of life.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Describe the relevant evidence base, policy and guidance on nutritional care in the last year of life.
- Determine how nutritional needs and priorities change as patients approach end of life.
- Provide practical support for nutrition related symptoms such as poor appetite, taste changes or swallowing difficulties.
- Discuss the benefits and burdens of commencing, withdrawing or withholding artificial nutrition from the perspectives of patients, families and healthcare staff.
Who should attend?
Nurses, healthcare assistants, social care and catering staff who support those who may have eating and/or nutritional issues towards the end of life.
Accreditation
Certificate of attendance from Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services. Nurses: Category 1 Approval with Certified Education Units (CEU’s) from NMBI being sought.
