Why study Human Resource Management at BUiD?

The British University in Dubai (BUiD), was established in 2003 and is the Middle East region's first, research based, postgraduate university. BUiD offers a unique opportunity for higher education. As one of the region's most innovative institutions, BUiD sets the standards for study and research that will significantly contribute to the technological innovation and growth of the Arab world and beyond.

The MSc in Human Resource Management is a business-oriented degree, aimed to equip students for an enhanced professional role in Human Resource Management. The degree will be of relevance to a wide range of organisations including private and public bodies, small and medium sized businesses as well as large global organisations. The Diploma in Human Resource Management offers the same taught content but has no requirement for a full length research-based dissertation.

The goals of the programme are to: familiarise students with best practice in Human Resource Management and its contribution to organisational performance ground the students experience firmly in the realities of international and global Human Resource Management provide an opportunity for students to apply key concepts, and to discuss real-life issues, within the context of Human Resource Management in the UAE give students the opportunity to apply their learning by means of classroom exercises, case studies, and a more extended research-based dissertation.

The focus of the programme is on Human Resource Management within the local context, where the economy is increasingly reliant on high quality Human Resource Managers who can help to drive forward organisational performance and thus support sustainable economic growth. Although each module is underpinned by general theory and practice, all modules will also focus on issues of direct and special relevance to the UAE and its surrounding region. It is expected that dissertations will focus on the challenges faced by local organisations and institutions and will provide recommendations for how to tackle these challenges.

Developed by The British University in Dubai, one of the region's foremost research institutions, the programme has been designed in partnership with the Manchester Business School (MBS) at the University of Manchester - one of Europe's leading business schools. MBS is also accredited by AACSB International, AMBA and EQUIS, one of only a small number of schools worldwide to receive accreditation from all three international business school and MBA accrediting bodies. The programme has also received input from the Dubai Human Resources Forum and a wide range of senior HR managers from the region.

What can I do with an MSc/Diploma in Human Resource Management?

The programmes are intended for graduates and professionals from a range of backgrounds related to Human Resource Management. They can be moving to the programme from an undergraduate programme or can be mature professionals.
The programmes are designed to provide participants with the skills they need for high level careers in Human Resource Management. It has also been designed in accordance with the professional standards of the UK's Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (the largest professional body for HR managers in the world), and accreditation from CIPD is currently under discussion.

Course Overview:

The MSc programme is available part-time (1-2 years) to provide maximum flexibility for those who may wish to work and study. Subject to sufficient demand the programme may also be provided on a full-time (one year) basis. The MSc programme consists of six modules (20 credits each) and a dissertation (60 credits). The Diploma programme consists of six modules (20 credits each). Part-time students take two modules each semester, full-time students usually take 3 modules each semester.
