Course details
This course allows students the opportunity to refine and further develop their skills in the sports and fitness area. Students gain a deeper understanding of sports related topics and gain experience in dealing with a variety of groups, including sports teams, older adults, teenagers and children. They learn to apply their knowledge and skills obtained at level 5
Modules
- Business Management - (6N4310): This module aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the role and function of management in the business environment, in addition to developing effective management skills.
- Exercise and Fitness - (6N5345): This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to work independently and or in an instructional capacity in an exercise, health and fitness environment.
- Health Promotion - (6N2214): This module is designed to enable learners to establish community health programmes and raise community awareness of Health related issues.
- Personal and Professional Development - (6N1949): The module is designed to enable the learner to gain an in depth understanding of the role and function of management in the business environment, and to develop effective management skills.
- Sports Coaching - (N32980): The module is designed to provide opportunities for learners to acquire the knowledge, skills and confidence to plan, implement and evaluate coaching programmes for a range of sports. On successful completion of the module, candidates will be competent to provide coaching in a range of sports in either the school or club sport situation.
- Sports Industry Practice - (6N5345): This programme module aims to assist the learner to gain an understanding of the structure, procedures, functioning and rules and regulations within the sport, recreation and exercise sector.
- Sports Nutrition - (6N4651): The module is designed to provide the learner with a sound knowledge of the concepts of nutrition, in relation to the energy sources and amounts required for active living, exercise, sport and weight management.
- Sports Psychology - (6N4665): This module is designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge to change behaviour in a sporting context. It will enable participants to develop an understanding of the psychological principles that underpin coaching techniques. It is aimed at individuals who are working with teams or athletes and participants who choose to work in the leisure industry.
Course Info
Work experience takes place throughout the academic year in a variety of centres and enterprises offering sport and recreation activities.
Entry Requirements
- Successful completion of a FETAC Level 5 Award in Sport & Recreation Studies
- DSRXX or equivalent
