This specialist workshop will be of value to individuals who are working in communications who are required to write speeches for either themselves, their colleagues and bosses or their clients. Speech-writing typically falls to relatively senior individuals within organisations or agencies because it requires a fairly high standard of writing and trust.
For that reason this workshop is most suited to individuals who are at or above PR Manager, Account Manager or Marketing Manager level.
This workshop will cover the following:
- What constitutes a good speech?
- Structure and form - how to structure a speech
- Body language
- How to use language and variety to engage your audience and keep them
- The importance of word-choice and being on-message (how to avoid a PR disaster!)
- Style, pace, volume
This workshop will be interactive and participants should bring a laptop and be prepared to engage with the rest of the group. Some participants will have an opportunity to deliver a speech towards the end of the workshop. All participants should be prepared to be brave and have a go!

Your trainer: George Stothard, The Writing Shop
The Writing Shop was launched in the autumn of 2012. It is a freelance vehicle for its Founder, George Stothard who is supported by a team of external associates. Since launching, the Writing Shop has provided a wide range of writing services to companies and organisations as diverse as Spinneys, Etihad, DIFC, Saudi Arabia's National Prawn Company and Novo Nordisk. Written materials include annual reports, bylines, speeches, press materials, feature articles, website copy, e-flyers, brochures and industry reports.
George Stothard has fourteen years business experience initially in PR and then in PR recruitment. He began life as an actor in the UK and also volunteered for several years for the British Labour Party. He has been living in Dubai since 2008 and also co-hosts twice a week on Dubai Today, a Dubai Eye (ARN) radio show. He is a keen follower of economic, social and political affairs and is also interested in the areas of mental health, nutrition and wellness.See all courses
