There will be no certificate issued after completion of this programme.

Applicants who do not meet the SHRM English language requirements will have to undergo the SHRM English Placement Test. Based on the table below, you may be required to take one or two levels Preparatory English Language Programme.

Entry Level

  • Direct to Diploma/ Advanced Diploma
  • Preparatory English Language Level 2
  • Preparatory English Language Level 1

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

Each level of the English Programme is for a duration of 10 study weeks with 3 break weeks.

MODE OF DELIVERY

The programme is conducted on a face-to-face tutorial basis.  The English language classes are capped at a maximum of 15 students per class. Classes are conducted Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm

MODULES

Level 1 covers the fundamentals of English grammar, vocabulary, speaking and writing skills as well as listening and comprehension skills. The aim is to increase overall English proficiency to prepare them for Level 2 and the confidence needed for entering the academic programmes offered by SHRM. Basic to intermediate grammar, readings, language based activities and class trips are essential to this module and will provide the students with enriching experiences and useful course skills.

Level 2 covers the fundamentals of English as introduced and used in the hospitality and tourism industry.  Increasing their overall English proficiency and their specific knowledge of industry-specific language will give the students more confidence within the diploma and advanced diploma programs.  Grammar, readings, language-based activities and class trips are essential to this module and will provide the students with enriching experiences and useful job skills.

There will be no certificate issued after completion of this course.

ASSESSMENT

Students are assessed with a mixture of continuous assessments throughout each term in the form of presentations, and theory tests. Final examinations are conducted at the end of each term.

In the event a student fails a level, the student will be required to repeat the level.
