Course details

At the end of the module the participant will be able to handle very routine entry-level jobs that do not require sophisticated conversations in English. The module will train participants to be more comfortable in conversing in English.

Course Outline:

• Demonstrate accurate pronunciation of the various sounds in English.
• Demonstrate accurate pronunciation of words and sounds when they are modified by adjacent sounds.
• Demonstrate accurate pronunciation of words in connected speech.
• Use basic stress and intonation patterns in English words and sentences accurately.
• Recite letters of the alphabet, letters in words and numbers when reading aloud from a text or sign. Use simple words, phrases, phrasal verbs and simple idioms used in a variety of everyday contexts.
• Use high frequency words, phrases, phrasal verbs and simple idioms that are used in a variety of everyday contexts.
• Use simple words, phrases and idioms drawn from functional life skill topics.
• Use homonyms in context. Use words changed by prefixes, suffixes etc.
• Use basic grammar and structures with present tense verbs and modals in high-frequency usage.
• Use pronouns and follow pronouns across a statement.
• Use contracted forms. Use imperative constructions. Use negative constructions.
• Use noun plurals. Use the possessive form of nouns and pronouns.
• Use intermediate level grammar and structures.
• Use comparative forms of adjectives. Use comparative forms of adverbs.
• Identify the context, audience and purpose of speaking. Take into account purpose, perspective and cultural influence of the listener while speaking.
• Use format and structure suitable for purpose and audience. Present information/ideas concisely, logically and persuasively.
• Use simple words and phrases drawn from learned topics.
• Engage in simple learned social exchanges.
• Use simple requests for repetition or simple clarification. Use simple conversations.
• Express simple states and feelings. Use abbreviated forms of speech.
