Course details
This course is designed to explain the importance of the use of correct English Grammar in daily shipping business transactions and communications. In addition, some techniques and useful pointers in writing telexes, letters and memoranda, as well as presentation and analysis of numerical data in shipping situations, will be explained.

- Grammar in Business Correspondence: Quick revision of English Grammar with special emphasis on common errors
- Some additional grammatical points: Articles, punctuation, phrasal verbs, local usage
- Style in Business Correspondence
- Memoranda and letters in a shipping environment
- Effective Telex-writing in shipping
- Communication of numerical information in shipping
Course Methodology
This course will consist of lectures-cum-workshops. Practical work will centre around written communication exercises based on case studies from shipping management. At the end of the course, there will be a proficiency test and an evaluation and feedback session.
Target Participants
Management trainees, secretaries, supervisors, junior executives and new entrants from shipping agencies, freight forwarding, trading and stevedoring companies.

About Singapore Shipping Association
The SSA started to offer courses to shore-based shipping companies as far back as 1989. Twelve long and short part time vocational courses are currently conducted by full time professionals from the shipping industry. The courses are very well supported by the shipping companies. The Association, through its Executive Development Programme, aims to upgrade the high level of service and professionalism of shipping staff to enhance Singapore's competitiveness as an International Maritime Centre.
