Course details

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It measures ability to communicate in English across all four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication. It is the preferred test of English for students intending to study in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland and the United Kingdom and covers the four language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Listening

  • Infer meanings from complex conversations and talks and draw conclusions

Reading Skills

  • recognize question types
  • have a clear strategy to approach each question type
  • comprehend questions or statements
  • comprehend academic reading passages
  • skim to get the main idea
  • scan to locate specific information
  • understand vocabulary in context
  • predict meaning
  • identify the writer’s point of view
  • achieve required reading speed within time limit

Writing Skills

  • recognize question types
  • have a clear strategy for approaching different question types Report or letter & Essay)
  • comprehend and paraphrase statements
  • organize and produce coherent paragraphs with good linking words (logical and grammatical)
  • use a variety of formal and appropriate vocabulary
  • use a variety of collocations and lexical sets appropriately
  • avoid common grammatical errors in writing
  • write a letter incorporating and developing key points from statement
  • demonstrate a good control of complex sentence structures
  • self-edit effectively

Speaking Skills:

  • recognize what is required in parts 1-3 of speaking test
  • extend answers in part 1
  • plan and execute answer in part 2 within the prescribed time limit
  • elaborate on answers in part 3
  • engage in conversations on familiar topics effectively, accurately and with confidence
