Welcome to Shelton’s EGL program! We are delighted that you are considering joining us. Here at Shelton we strongly believe in our school’s motto: “No one gets left behind.” We strive to keep our classes challenging, while remaining fun and interesting. Our teachers will strive to go that extra mile in helping you achieve your goals. At EGL we offer you variety. Not only in module content, but also in learning styles. You would explore the four core ways of using English through reading, writing, listening and speaking. Classrooms are highly conducive, with experienced teachers inducing elements of fun during lessons. Our teachers come from all around the globe and use their expertise to train students to express in the language with great enthusiasm.

Classrooms have modern built-in multimedia to boost the in-house experience. Activities generate high participation from students and prepare them gradually to the next level of course, right till its completion. (insert classroom picture with multimedia somewhere here).

There are three levels at EGL; Lower Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced, each four months in length. Students are placed into the level most appropriate for their English ability. Look out for completing an English Language Assessment Test (ELAT) to determine your appropriate placement. The entry points are as shown in the table below:

After graduating each level you will have achieved a new level of English mastery as measured by standardized IELTS testing. Additionally, you will be taught skills that directly applicable to the professional and academic world. Lower Intermediate: IELTS 3.0

Ability to give basic presentations in English and write stories with prehensile structuring. Intermediate: IELTS 4.0

Ability to have free discussions on more advanced concepts as well as a solid grounding in formal writing. Advanced: IELTS 5.0

Introduction to researching and delivering business proposals with integrated multimedia support.

Additional Activities Outside the Classroom:

At Shelton we are dedicated to the belief that an engaged student is a productive one. English is a living language and we are always looking for new and exciting ways to teach it. Students are taken on weekly trips to a wide variety of locations which not only provide concrete groundings for target vocabulary, but also an exposure and enhanced appreciation of different cultures and experiences. Students have been taken to national and cultural landmarks like the Marina Bay, National Public Library, Little India, Kampong Glam Museum, Arab Street, and Sentosa. However, we have also been to locations like IKEA, Mind Café, and to the cinema. We encourage our students to see English as a living language, one that not only opens new doors for their career, but enriches their daily lives. We hope to see you soon in Singapore!
