    Course details

    Target Audience: 

    Mid- to senior-level officials at the ministry of finance or other ministries and government agencies involved in the determination of fuel prices or fuel subsidy policy.

    Qualification:

    Participants should be involved in the implementation of government policies that determine fuel prices and fuel subsidies.

    Language:

    The course is conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation into Arabic.

    Course Description: 
    This course, presented by the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department, explores recent developments in subsidy expenditures for fuel products; options for the reform of these subsidies, including the design of social safety net measures to protect low-income groups adversely affected by the reduction of subsidies; and alternative fuel pricing mechanisms that can help smooth the transmission of international fuel prices to domestic prices while protecting the budget. Participants may be asked to make presentations on different aspects of their country’s experience in setting fuel prices and reforming subsidies.
