Hazard identification and risk assessment are key elements of a process safety management system. This course, suited to those starting their careers in process safety, will start with a review of the existing legal requirements for risk assessments in US and EU countries, an overview of some of the most common process hazards and hazards identification techniques, with particular attention to the principle features of effective risk assessment. This includes an in-depth analysis of the risk estimation and evaluation techniques as well as the implementation of risk reduction measures.

• Regulatory framework in the US and EU countries
• Definitions and concepts (hazards, risks)
• Hazards Identification (Introduction to process hazards, Process Hazard Analysis)
• Risk estimation (level of risk assessment, calculation method for individual risks)
• Risk evaluation (risk criteria, risk matrix, ALARP concept)
• Individual risk / societal risk
• Risk reduction measures

Who should attend?

This course is introductory and intended for those who are starting a career in process safety management. Delegates are likely to have a degree in engineering or science or equivalent industrial experience. Experience of working in the process industries will be an advantage. A course manual is provided in theform of a hard copy of the overheads used and a certificate is awarded to those who successfully complete the course. Delegate numbers are normally restricted to a maximum of 25.
