This Motor Technology PLC course allows graduates to gain an appreciation of Motor Engineering and gather experience while working with different technologies and applications associated with engineering. Graduates of this Motor Technology course can progress to Maintenance Skills for Engineering Level 6 in Galway Community College or other Higher Education Institutions to further their studies

Modules

  • Auto Electricity - (5N213700): This module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to apply electrical principles and theories to components utilised in the motor technology sector
  • Communications - (5N0690): This programme module aims to facilitate the learner to develop the academic, vocational & personal language, literacy and/or numeracy skills related to Communications. It will assist the learner in understanding the use of modern information and communications technology integrated with the role played by communications and relevant legislation in human interaction.
  • Computer Aided Draughting - (5N1604): The module is designed to give the learner an understanding of the role of computers as a design tool for architecture, engineering and interior design.
  • Engineering Mathematics - (5N1833): The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to apply a broad range of mathematical skills and tools to a wide variety of contexts with application to everyday life
  • Engineering Workshop Processes - (5N1608): Learners who successfully complete this module will develop safe working practices and become familiar with a variety of engineering processes. They will develop competence in the use of tools and equipment associated with a range of engineering processes, develop good work practices and appreciate the importance of accuracy in engineering processes
  • Motor Vehicle Practice - (5N2143): This module has been designed so that the learner will acquire basic skills to carry out a range of maintenance tasks, associated with a motor vehicle, safely and efficiently.
  • Motor Vehicle Theory - (5N2144): This module provides the necessary mechanical background knowledge to complement the Motor Vehicle Practice module. It introduces the learner to the various mechanical components of a motor vehicle.
  • Work Experience - (5N1356): This programme module aims to provide a Learner with the personal knowledge, skills and capacity to participate in a suitable work placement under supervision for a limited time. It will also facilitate the learner to develop an understanding of the world of work and employment, Including the rights and responsibilities of both employer and employee.

Course Info

Work experience takes place one day per week in a local garage throughout the academic year.

Entry Requirements

FETAC Level 4, minimum of 17 years of age at time of registration, Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied, Equivalent qualifications from other countries, relevant life experiences, relevant work experiences and mature students.
