Course details

This module provides participants with an integrated and practical overview of weld evaluation, welding design, welding operation, and welding quality control. It offers a general understanding of weldability analyses, pre- and post-weld heat treatments, non-destructive testing and inspection for welded joints, welding design and simulation, welding process mechanisation and automation, as well as welding quality control. Trainees will acquire the skills and knowledge needed to understand the different techniques for evaluating and controlling welding quality as well as the most efficient welding methods. The module also includes case studies on preparing welding-related documents in real-life scenarios.

Why This Course

This module is specially designed to effectively guide participants towards quickly adopting the most efficient ways to control/improve weld quality and welding productivity. The module will train participants to build the competencies required to perform weld evaluation, undertake testing and inspection of welded joints, perform design and simulation, understand the welding process mechanisation and automation, and control welding distortions. On the successful completion of this module, participants will be able to evaluate, control, and improve weld quality as well as improve welding productivity.

What You Will Learn

This module will mainly focus on destructive and non-destructive testing and the inspection for welded joints, welding design, mechanised and automated welding, and welding quality control. The detailed contents include:

  • Methodologies for evaluating weldability
  • Principles for pre/post weld heat treatment
  • Principles of destructive and non-destructive testing and inspection of welds
  • Basics of weld design
  • Fundamentals of modelling and simulation in welding
  • Approaches and specifications for mechanisation and automation of welding processes
  • Correlation among welding process parameters, residual stresses, and weld joint distortion
  • Procedures for performing QA and QC in welding operations
