Course details

This course is the first of the two mandatory units that an Examining technician must undertake as a part of the Licensed Vehicle Tester Training Scheme (LVTTS) in conjunction with VicRoads Vehicle Safety and Compliance, for the technician to obtain accreditation to inspect vehicles for the purpose of issuing a certificate of roadworthiness.

Prerequisites

MUST be a qualified mechanic and have either:

A certificate 3 in Automotive technology, A certificate of Proficiency or a certificate of Completion: OR

An oversear qualification approved as equivalent to Australian trades qualifications: OR

A motor mechanic with at least seven (7) years approved experiance having passed examinations by Trades Recognition Australia.

MUST hold a current Victorian drivers licence

Course Content

At the completion of this course, participants will:

Be able to identify acceptable/unacceptable component wear on a vehicle presented for inspection.

Be able to reference and use the appropriate standards and written directions in accordance with Vic Roads requirements for assessing worn components.

Be able to apply suitable inspection methods in accordance with Vic Roads requirements.

Be able to locate and complete all relevant documentation involved with the assessment.

Be able to access the Personal Properties Security Register (PPSR) web site for the purpose of checking the status (Written off or Stolen) of a vehicle presented for inspection.

Be able to reference and use the appropriate standards and written directions for assessing modifications that may have been undertaken on a vehicle presented for inspection.
