IP is the language of the Internet. It has become the single-most widely used communications protocol. Fundamental to network consolidation, supporting a perse set of services with a single infrastructure, it is a common encapsulating protocol that accommodates different service transport requirements. This course provides knowledge of the fundamentals, operation and implementation of IP and explains the process of host to host communication over IP Network or Internetwork.

Expected Accomplishments

  • Explain the fundamental networking concepts, terminologies and topologies
  • Compare network, internet, intranet and extranet scenarios
  • Compare PAN, LAN, MAN and WAN
  • Explain the function of OSI layers
  • List various protocols used at the OSI and TCP/IP models
  • Describe the TCP, UDP and IP header fields and their use
  • Compare port, logical and physical addressing
  • Use binary mathematics for resolving IPv4 addresses
  • Explain the concepts of subnets and subnet masks in IPv4
  • Explain the Host-Host data communication through an IP Network
  • Compare segments, packets and frames.
  • Understand the working ofethernet as a LAN technology
  • Implement basic networking using ethernet switch
