Course details
This 10 week intensive course in Interior Design gives participants a thorough understanding and grounding in all the core aspects of residential interior design. This course is ideal for those who have a keen interest in the area of Interior Design; those looking for a career change and those who would like to enhance their current skills by further professional development. The class structure includes lectures, discussion and practical work and the informal setting allows plenty of time for questions and individual attention from the lecturer.
Course Content
- The area of Concept Design/Development is essential in Interior Design and this programme encourages participants to discover their own creativity and be confident in applying it in their designs.
- The course takes you through the design process, from the ideas stage through the specifics and limitations of size/dimensions to the real pieces you want to use in your rooms.
- Space planning and Draughting are core skills and participants will learn how to draw rooms and furniture to scale. Sample Boards are created as a visual aid for clients and contain the real pieces used in each room, together with a detailed and comprehensive sourcing file for each piece chosen.
- The course takes an in depth look into Colour Theory/Psychology of Colour and how it can be manipulated into creating optical illusions to make spaces look bigger/smaller/brighter.
- We also explore the Principles and Elements of Design, and take a comprehensive look into the areas of Identifying Styles, Colour Schemes, Flooring, Lighting, Fabrics, History of Design, Sourcing and File/Sample Building, Wall Finishes, Kitchens/Bathrooms, Window Treatments, Professional Practice, Presentations.
- Practical work within the classroom includes rendering, image selection, sample gathering, measuring, draughting, compiling sample and concept boards etc.
- All of the skills learned are put into practice by completing weekly assignments and the Final Project.
Assessment
Continuous assessment by submission of various assignments and a final project.
Certification
On successful completion of this programme participants will receive a Dublin Institute of Design Associate Certificate in Interior Design.
