Course details
This 2 day course will cover all the main aspects involved in designing an exhibition from start to finish. These curatorial strategies will give you an overall context of exhibition design which you will be able to adapt and modify to your own art or design practice.
Take a tour through the exciting history of exhibition design, which culminates in a series of new and innovative models. Your tutor will talk you through the practical and logistical processes involved in staging an exhibition.
This course includes a series of lectures on key exhibition designs within the 20th and 21st centuries. It also covers the main areas you need to cover to deliver an exhibition from start to finish. In the practical side of the course, you will be guided through the initial concept and research, moving to agreements, layout and, finally, to the hanging of artworks. We will also advise you on budget considerations, funding and health and safety requirements in public spaces.
You will be able to combine your design knowledge acquired on the course with a confidence in the skills you require to bring these into being. As well as developing your knowledge of innovative exhibition design, it's a chance to exchange ideas with the rest of the group. Students are welcome to bring along ideas in relation to future exhibitions that they would like to or will be organising and will be encouraged to engage in group workshops.
Course Outcomes
You will be capable of organising an exhibition from start to finish, as well as appreciating a successful exhibition design layout. You'll be aware of the procedures between galleries and artists.
Who Should Attend
Artists, emerging curators, crafts people, or anyone eager to learn about the history of exhibition design, contemporary trends and the practical side of organising an exhibition.
