Welcome to Triathlon Ontario’s Online Continuing Education Coaching Course. This is the "Train Better: Exercise Physiology for Triathlon" section and is the first in a series of modules aimed at enhancing triathlon coaches existing skill set. In order to take this course you must have completed the NCCP Community Level Triathlon Coaching Course first. If you have not taken the NCCP course or would like credit for an equivalent level of education, please contact Triathlon Ontario at info@triathlonontario.com before proceeding.
Dr. Greg Wells has developed the physiology section for triathlon coaches and athletes. The course consists of lecture videos, some readings, and quizzes. There are 9 lectures and each lecture lasts from 30-45 minutes. The course covers the following topics:
1. Training and Adaptation
2. Energy Systems
3. Aerobic Training and Endurance
4. Anarerobic Training and Speed
5. Monitoring Training
6. Recovery
7. Regeneration
8. Tapering
9. Building a Training Plan
It is expected that people can work through the course materials in as little as a few days or as long as a few months. You should take this course if you are interested in triathlon, if you want to learn more about how the body works and how we can use the principles from exercise physiology to improve health, training and performance.
