Course details
This course is for adult learners who need English to:
- function independently in survival and work situations;
- clarify general meaning and communicate on the telephone on familiar topics;
- understand and participate in practical and social conversations and in technical discussions in their own field;
- handle most reading and writing tasks related to life roles; read and interpret most non-simplified materials; interpret routine charts, graphs and labels; fill out medical information forms and job applications;
- understand work-related conversations and interact with the public;
- meet work demands with confidence and follow written instructions in work manuals
Course Outline
The course integrates Reading and Writing skills and covers the following:
- How to get started in writing
- Identifying important aspects of writing
- Describing pictures
- Persuading others in writing
- Analyzing argumentative writing
- Writing instructions and procedures
- Analyzing work-related information
- Writing letters of job application and resumes
- Interpreting financial matters
- Interpreting insurance matters
- Writing business email, letters and reports
- Writing minutes of meeting and summaries
Requirements
Trainee must pass the Pre-Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) to determine their workplace literacy & numeracy level
How will I be assessed?
- All trainees for Workplace Literacy (WPL) are required to sit for a Pre-Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) assessment to evaluate their language proficiency levels before they are recommended to the different levels for class.
- The CAT assessment is computer-based and consist of four components - Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.
- After the completion of the training, all trainees are required to sit for a Post-Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) assessment to assess their improvements Statement of Attainment (SOA) from Workplace Development Agency (WDA)
Will I recieve a certificate of completion?
