    This course is for adult learners who need English to:

    • function independently in survival and work situations;
    • clarify general meaning and communicate on the telephone on familiar topics;
    • understand and participate in practical and social conversations and in technical discussions in their own field;
    • handle most reading and writing tasks related to life roles; read and interpret most non-simplified materials; interpret routine charts, graphs and labels; fill out medical information forms and job applications;
    • understand work-related conversations and interact with the public;
    • meet work demands with confidence and follow written instructions in work manuals

    Course Outline

    The course integrates Listening, Speaking and Reading skills and covers the following:

    1. Ask appropriate and correct questions
    2. Express personal preference, likes and dislikes
    3. Use grammatical expressions to give directions, transport schedules and traffic information
    4. Express opinions in social and workplace setting
    5. Give advice, persuade and negotiate appropriately
    6. Use appropriate language at business meetings
    7. Use effective conversation skills on the telephone
    8. Interpret workplace documents and visual representation
    9. Assess advertisements in selecting goods and services
    10. Master good dictionary skills to enhance listening, reading and speaking

    Requirements

    Trainee must pass the Pre-Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) to determine their workplace literacy & numeracy level

    How will I be assessed?

    All trainees for Workplace Literacy (WPL) are required to sit for a Pre-Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) assessment to evaluate their language proficiency levels before they are recommended to the different levels for class.

    • The CAT assessment is computer-based and consist of four components - Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.
    • After the completion of the training, all trainees are required to sit for a Post-Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) assessment to assess their improvements

    Will I recieve a certificate of completion?
