Course details

This module is a high-level certification programme that enables candidates to use the many advanced tools available in database applications to better manage and organise structured information. Successful completion of this module will enable candidates to maximise database functions, in order to manage and analyse high volumes of data, thus enabling the production of the quantity and quality of information that business today demands.

Syllabus

The Syllabus sets out the specific knowledge and skills that make up this module, as informed by input from subject matter experts from a wide range of computer societies and organisations.

On completion of this module the candidate will be able to:

  • Understand key concepts of database development and usage
  • Create a relational database using advanced table creation features and complex relationships between tables
  • Design and use queries to create a table, update, delete and append data. Refine queries using wildcards, parameters and calculations
  • Use controls and subforms to enhance forms and improve functionality
  • Create report controls to perform calculations. Create subreports and enhance report presentation
  • Enhance productivity by working with macros and use linking and importing features to integrate data

About Ballyfermot Training Centre

The Ethos of Ballyfermot IT Centre is to allow the local community have equal access to the facilities and enable each member to progress from their existing skills level to higher levels. 

The centre recognises the importance of information technology in society as a means to communicate on an equal basis. The need for an accessible ICT training venue was identified as a priority area of action under Ballyfermot Partnership Company’s area action plan 1995 - 2000. 

Ballyfermot Partnership Economic working group hosted an Economic Forum meeting that took place 12th November 1998 that subsequently highlighted and identified education and ICT skills as a key inhibitor for economic development in the Ballyfermot area. Ballyfermot Information Technology Ltd. was a Ballyfermot Partnership initiative. The company, limited by guarantee was set up in 1999 in order to become the managing agent of the Information Technology Training Unit on Le Fanu Road in Ballyfermot. It became a Social Economy Enterprise on 11th November 2000.  

The Social Economy Enterprise changed to a Community Service Programme administered by Pobal on 1st January 2006. The company is now The Ballyfermot IT Centre Social Economy Limited.
