Course details

A Level 6 qualification is becoming a requirement when applying for a job within the ECCE sector. The course enables the learner to acquire the skills, knowledge and competence that are required to work in a supervisory capacity in an ECCE setting. The modules are chosen so learners are well equipped to implement Aistear, Siolta and the much discussed extra pre- school year. Work Experience is 1 day a week for the duration of the course. There is also a 2 week block in the second half of the course.

Modules

  • Child Development - (6N1942): This module is designed to provide the learner with knowledge and understanding of child development from 0-12 years and the skills required to implement and promote the use of observations in the ECCE setting. This module aims to promote good practice, equality, and respect for diversity in the ECCE setting.
  • Childhood Social Legal and Health Studies - (6N1945): The aim of this programme is to equip the student with the knowledge skill and competence in the social and legislative environment of ECCE and to enable each student to devise implement and evaluate policies and procedures that support the health and wellbeing of children.
  • Early Childhood Curriculum - (6N1944): This programme aims to equip the student with the knowledge, skill and competence required to develop and implement a broad based curriculum in the Early Childhood Care and Education setting. (ECCE)
  • Early Childhood Literacy and Numeracy - (6N1935): The aim of this programme is to equip the student with the knowledge, skills, and competence to support early childhood literacy and numeracy in a specific Early Childhood and Education environment.
  • Early Learning Environment - (6N1933)
  • Team Leadership - (6N1948): This programme aims to equip the student with the knowledge, skill, and competence, to work as an effective leader and member of a team, independently and/ or in a supervisory capacity.
  • Work Experience - (6N1946): This programme module aims to provide a Learner with the personal knowledge, skills and capacity to participate in a suitable work placement under supervision for a limited time. It will also facilitate the learner to develop an understanding of the world of work and employment, Including the rights and responsibilities of both employer and employee.

Course Info

Work experience takes place two days per week throughout the academic year. Students have a practical opportunity here to apply theory, knowledge and interpersonal skills in a variety of childcare and educational settings.

Special Features

Participants will acquire an understanding of early childhood education programmes and recent curriculum development in the Irish context.

The course is delivered by highly qualified and experienced team of lecturers. The course provides excellent progression route to further education and subject to specific requirements the course can be used to apply through CAO for a third level degree in a related discipline

Entry Requirements

Suitable candidates must have obtained a relevant FETAC Level 5 Award or equivalent to be eligible for this course.
