Course Aims
- To provide students with a teaching diploma, which will enable them to pursue a career as a trainer / teacher.
- Qualified teachers can add IT as a subject.
- The programme will train and certify that candidates can:
- Appreciate ICT as a learning resource in education.
- Evaluate the range of ICT equipment and software available.
- Organise computer resources for use by students.
- Use a range of computer applications effectively.
- Produce teaching materials for use in ICT training.
- Plan and implement effective ICT training courses

- Preparation of Teaching resources, Lesson Plans, Learning resources
- Teaching Practice
Section 2: Teaching ICT Skills
Planning and Preparing to teach ICT
- Understand how to teach ICT concepts
- Understand how to manage ICT resources
- Prepare ICT teaching/learning resources for software
Teaching ICT Skills
- Scheme of Work, Lesson Plans, Resources, Assessments
- Teaching Practice
Course Work
- Principles of Teaching and Learning Examination (Qualified teachers are exempt)
- Preparation of Teaching Portfolio
- Four hours of Teaching Practice
- Prepare teaching/learning resources.
- Teaching Project to include training needs analysis, a scheme of work, lesson plans and teaching materials/resources
Entry Requirements
Candidates must:
Be at least 20 years old on the day of final assessment.
- Hold 5 passes in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
- Hold the ECDL computer skills certificate or higher.
