Course details

This course is developed to cater for a wide range of abilities, from complete beginners to candidates who wish to advance their knowledge and are keen to learn the basics quickly and correctly. The module is designed to stimulate interest and enthusiasm in the now very topical subject of ‘FOOD’. It provides a practical context appropriate to the learner’s needs and interests.

Course Content:

  • Explore a range of healthy, manageable, affordable meals options for themselves and their families.
  • Become a familiar with a range of traditional, ethnic and vegetarian cuisines.
  • Use kitchen utensils and equipment effectively and safely.
  • Understand everyday safety and hygiene practices, including the correct procedures for handling and storing food.
  • Develop new skills and tasks associated with the planning, shopping, preparation and cooking of economical and healthy food.
  • Acquire knowledge of the main principles of nutrition.
