    Course details

    This programme aims to offer the student the training necessary, in both theory and hands-on practical work, to achieve the Cisco qualification of Network Associate. This programme, which consists of four modules is designed to teach the objectives of the CCNA qualification, from a basic overview level of networking in module 1 to an advanced discussion of prescribed networking topics in modules 3 and 4, e.g. ACLs, Frame Relay, VLANs, etc.

    On completion of module 4, the student will have the requisite knowledge to sit the VUE test (#200-120) which awards the CCNA qualification.

    Module 1

    Introduction to Networks

    This module introduces the architecture, structure, functions components and models of the internet and computer networks. The principles of IP addressing and fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media and operations are introduced to provide a foundation for the CCNA programme. On completion of the module the student will be able to build simple LANs, perform basic configurations for routers and switches and implement IP addressing schemes.

    Module 2

    Routing and Switching Essentials

    This module describes the architecture, components and operations of routers and switches in a small network. Routers and switches will be configured for basic functionality. On completion of the module the student will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with RIPv2, single-area OSPF, virtual LANs and inter-VLAN routing in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks.

    Module 3

    Scaling Networks

    This module describes the architecture, components and operations of routers and switches in a large and complex network. Routers and switches will be configured for advanced functionality. On completion of the module the students will be capable of configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches and resolve common issues with multi-area OSPF, EIGRP, STP, VTP, DHCP and DNS in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks.

    Module 4

    Connecting Networks

    This module discusses the WAN technologies and network services required by converged applications in a complex network. It deals with the selection criteria of network devices and WAN technologies to meet network requirements. On completion of the module the student will be capable of implementing IPSec and VPN operation in a network as well as troubleshooting network devices and resolving common issues with data link protocols.

    Admission Requirements:

    • None, but a basic knowledge of computer networking would be an advantage.
