    Course details

This is a bootcamp that provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small to medium-sized network, including connecting to a WAN and implementing network security.

    Program Benefits

This course is the equivalent of "Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 1" and "Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 2" together. No need to take each of these CCNA courses separately.

    Target Job Roles

Students, upon completion of the course, should be able to assume the following job roles:

    • Network Administrators
    • Network Engineers
    • Network Managers
    • Systems Engineers.

    Program Objectives

Students, upon completion of the course, should be able to assume the following job roles:

    • Describe how networks function, identifying major components, function of network components, and the OSI reference model.
    • Use the host-to-host packet delivery process, describe issues related to increasing traffic on an Ethernet LAN and expand the switched network from a small LAN to a medium-sized LAN with multiple switches, supporting VLANs, trunking, and spanning tree.
    • Describe the reasons for extending the reach of a LAN and the methods that can be used, with a focus on RF wireless access.
    • Configure and verify a Cisco router for WAN connections with HDLC and PPP encapsulation, PAT, and Static Routing.
    • Use the command-line interface to discover neighbours on the network and manage the router start up and configuration.
    • Describe routing concepts as they apply to a medium-sized network and discuss dynamic routing with distance vector and link-state routing protocols and configuring RIP.
    • Determine how to apply ACLs based on network requirements, and to configure, verify, and troubleshoot ACLs.
    • Describe when to use NAT / PAT on a medium-sized network, how to configure NAT / PAT, and explain IPv6 addressing and configuration on a Cisco router Configure, verify, and troubleshoot Frame Relay.

    Program Outline

The course includes the following topics:

    • Building a Simple Network
    • Switching
    • Wireless Local Area Networks
    • LAN Connections
    • Wide Area Networks
    • Network Environment Management
    • Medium Sized Routed Network Construction
    • Medium Sized Switched Network Construction
    • Single Area OSPF
    • EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol)
    • Access Control Lists
    • Address Space Management
    • LAN Extension into a WAN

    Entry Requirements

    • Students must have IT related experience
    • Students must be Singaporeans or Singapore PRs to avail of WDA funding

    Certificates Issued

Once the students have successfully passed CCNA certification exam, they will receive CCNA Certificate from CISCO.

Upon completion of this module course under WDA funding, students will receive Statement of Attainment (SOA) Certificates from WDA. The details of SOA of each module are given below.

    • IT-NMM-401S-1 : Install and configure a Switch
    • IT-NMM-402S-1 : Install Switches and Multi-Switched local area network

    Education Pathway

The CCNA is the composite exam associated with the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification. Students need to schedule their exam at Prometric testing Centres.

    Graduation Requirements

Students need to complete the following 2 assessments for each module

    • Theory Exam: Students will be given 10 short questions and they need to answer in 45 minutes
    • Practical Exam: Students will be asked to do 3 practical performance tasks in CISCO network environment. Duration of this exam is 2 hrs.

After successful completion of these assessments students will be graded "Competent" (C) and will achieve the Statement of Attainment (SOA)
