The course will give you an overview of radio in Ireland, an insight into the regulatory and legal obligations, how to prepare and present a music programme, voice skills, how to operate a studio.
Course Content:
This course will cover the following :
- History in Relation to Radio Industry in Ireland
- Regulatory and Legal Obligations on broadcasters
- Programme Planning and Preparation
- Technical Skills
- Best Practices and Studio Theory
- Work placement with mentoring opportunity.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the basic principles of the various Broadcasting Acts, the function of the Industry regulator(BAI), and how the rules affect programming and commercial content.
- Students will understand the principles of a music format, how radio stations utilise playlists to manage their music output, develop a running order for a breakfast or drive time programme.
- Students will be able to edit using a digital audio workstation, develop proper microphone technique, operate a mixing console and understand how to monitor audio levels
- Students will be able to produce a series of podcasts which may be used for programme content by stations and will also be featured on the Learning Waves website in the careers section.
Course Assessment:
A series of assessments will be developed by trainers and will involve a mix of on-air assessments, writing for radio, producing podcasts, ability to work in a team. Students will also have the opportunity to develop their own 'Demo' for radio along with their CV.
