تفاصيل الدورة

For those students who do not meet the normal Masters entry requirements, this course offers an appropriate qualification and relevant experience to pursue a Masters award. It offers advanced-level courses in the theory, analysis, design, modelling and manufacture of electronic and telecommunications systems. A Graduate Certificate exit award is also possible if you decide that you do not wish to transfer on to the Masters Programme, however, you must complete level 9 modules only in order to exit with a Certificate.

Areas covered include Image Processing and Analysis, Nanoelectronics, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Photonics, Control Systems, Communications and Telecommunications Networks.

Aims and Objectives:

  • To give students the knowledge, experience and skills to access either of our Masters programmes in Telecommunications Engineering or Electronic Systems.
  • The MEQ course itself does not carry an award, but it offers you the opportunity to advance your knowledge and career aspirations.

Programme Structure:

This programme may be completed in six months full time or 1 year part time. There are two intakes in any academic year, in September and in February.
Part-time students are advised to take two modules per semester. This can be done in a number of ways:
• The timetable has been designed to ensure attendance at DCU with minimum disruption to your work. If an employee has some flexibility, it should be possible to take two modules by attending DCU for one full day or two half-days per week.
• It may be more appropriate for you to use the 'hybrid' study approach - take one module at DCU, and a second using web-based distance-learning.
• Take two modules using the web-based distance-learning mode.
The taught elements are conducted over two 12-week semesters with subsequent end-of-semester examinations.

Remote Access/Web-based Distance-learning

All of the modules are supported by web-based distance-learning. It is possible to study all taught elements of this Qualifier Programme via the web. Students must attend campus for all examinations.

View the Subjects/Modules currently taught on this programme in the drop down programme selection box. To pass the Qualifier you must take 4 taught modules and to pass the Masters Programme you must pass 8 taught modules plus the project. Potentially, you may need to take 12 taught modules, however, if you choose modules that are on both the Qualifier Programme and the Masters Programme, then you will only need to take a total of 8 taught modules for both Programmes.

Why DCU:

  • With more than 20 modules available there is great scope to tailor the programme to your needs and interests in the largest and longest-running programme of its type in the country.
  • Flexible study options: combine full-time/part-time, on-campus/remote, a choice of two starting times each year.
  • The course is continually kept up to date to reflect changing trends in industry and research.
  • Acquire knowledge and skills that are in high demand in industry.

Career Prospects:

Candidates who successfully complete the Masters Qualifier can transfer to the M.Eng in Electronic Systems or M.Eng in Telecommunications Engineering.

Entry Requirements:

Entry to the Masters Qualifier Course is available to Electronic Engineering or cognate discipline graduates with:

  • An NFQ Level 8 qualification below H2.2 equivalent.
  • An NFQ Level 7 qualification, with a minimum of three years relevant experience.

Both cases are subject to an interview if deemed necessary by the Chair of Programme or Head of School.
