The purpose of this award is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competence to work under supervision in providing support in a variety of Healthcare settings or to progress to further and or higher education and training. With an increasing ageing population, in addition to advances and developments in care services in Ireland; the demand for skilled and competent personnel is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.

Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview. Work experience in the area would be an advantage.

Work Experience

Supervised clinical experience in nursing homes, hospitals, and other health facilities is incorporated into this course.This will take the form of one day per week for the academic year

The Healthcare Support Certificate is the Department of Health’s recommended qualification for all Healthcare Assistants working in the public and private sector.
