Certificate in Standard English 1 (Foundation) is an exciting course for beginners learning English. Over the course of 20 weeks, students are provided with an interactive environment to develop their English communication skills.
Admission Criteria
- Age Requirement: Applicant must be at least 13 years old as of 1 January of registration year.
- Language Proficiency: Applicant must take the City College English Entry Test. IELTS Band 2.0 or higher also fulfils the English requirement.

Assessment
- Term 1: Major Test 1
- Term 2: End-of-Year Exam
Upon Completion
Upon completion, successful graduates will be awarded a City College Certificate in Standard English, and may apply for entry to Certificate in Standard English 2.
Students will emerge from the course with a solid foundation in English, with the expected outcomes of the course as follows:
- Ability to engage in conversations in daily life
- Gist reading skills
- Identification and usage of various grammatical structures
- Basic understanding on proper pronunciation
