Course Overview

What is Project Management Certificate IV?

This course describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to contribute to the control of a complex project's scope by assisting with the identification of objectives, deliverables, constraints, assumptions and outcomes; and by applying controls once the project has commenced. This course leads to an Australian recognised formal qualification. You will learn the fundamentals of project management and develop an understanding of everyday project management terminology. Build your project management capabilities and understand the importance of participating effectively within a project team. Develop skills in managing scope, time, cost, resources, quality, risks, procurement and communication on projects.

Course Objectives

• Describe the key distinctions of project management as a discipline
• Identify the key stages or phases of the project life cycle and key steps to be completed at each step
• Describe the inter-relationship between project scope, time, cost, and quality
• Understand the importance of the project scope statement and distinguish between project deliverables and outcomes
• Contribute to the essential steps of the project planning process
• Explain the importance of project monitoring and control processes
• Articulate the importance of the project closure process

This breadth of expertise would equate to the competencies required to undertake this qualification.

Routes to Qualification

Candidates can achieve the Certificate IV in Project Management through either of two routes:

• Educational Route

The educational route is for candidates who are new or aspiring project leaders/coordinators and have little or no previous experience as a project leader/coordinator.

• Experience Route

The experience route is for candidates who currently have extensive vocational experience in a project management role (participant/team member).

The Institute of Management can formally recognise a student’s existing level of skills and knowledge in two ways:
1. Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
2. Credit transfer.

The RPL process allows assessment of a student’s competency and the granting of the Certificate IV in Project Management qualification without having to attend the four-day training course or undertake the formal written assessment and the on-line project management knowledge assessment quiz.
