The course covers common pets, handling, first aid, and common illnesses and health signs that you will see in animals.The role is just as much about people as it is about their pets/animals, and so the course covers not only animal anatomy, but also the emotional expectations of the pet's owners and the role pets take in people's lives.
This Veterinary Assistant Course also covers what every day working life would be like in this role, and how to go about beginning your career, along with information on job interviews, workplace progression, and other important information about working as a Veterinary Assistant.
It is important to understand the complex relationships between animals and people, the course explains the best ways to communicate with animal owners, both adult and child, as this is integral to understanding the ailment of the patient, as well as making it easier to empathise and help an owner through what can be a very stressful and emotional time.
Veterinary Assistant involves the care and welfare of animals in a veterinary setting. We cover basic animal health, how to care for pets when they are in the surgery and the legal stance that you need to be aware of when caring for pets as a professional. Students will learn about the routine examinations and procedures that they will often be asked to help with.
To understand illness it is important to understand how the body functions normally.Students learn basic anatomy and physiology of mammals in general: covering various structures and systems in their functioning state, along with some of the common ways that they can become dysfunctional. You will also be provided with an understanding of the areas of reproduction and genes, and how these affect the health and well-being of animals.
You will cover how to handle an emergency situation and provide first aid to an animal in need. And the correct way to handle animals in your care, and the importance of adapting to the patient's needs, temperament, and body condition.
Students will learn procedures that animals may undergo, it is also important to understand the medications that may be prescribed and administered to a patient, along with having a good knowledge of how the immune system works.
Fianlly, you will cover daily life in the job, the environments you could work in, the roles of others you will likely work alongside, a little about the law, how to prepare for the role, and some tips on how to go about gaining employment.
