“Success is a journey, not a destination”. This saying is undeniably true of Sunway’s successful journey as an education provider which has come full-circle recently with the momentous culmination of the Sunway College, which began in the 1980s, as the Sunway University of the 21st century.

Our story began in 1987, when Sunway College was established by its Founder, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, AO. Within a short span of time, Sunway became a popular household name as a private higher education institution in Malaysia. Being one of the pioneers of the twinning and credit transfer programmes, Sunway offered many Malaysian and international students the opportunity of obtaining well recognised qualifications of foreign universities from the UK, Australia and the USA through studying at Sunway in Malaysia. As a result of its quality provision and track record of good academic results, Sunway College was upgraded to Sunway University College in 2004.

In 2009, Sunway University College was one of very few private higher education institutions in Malaysia to be rated ‘Excellent’ in the first ever quality rating system in Malaysia – the ‘SETARA’ by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). With its excellent rating, quality delivery of teaching and learning and significant contribution towards developing the nation’s workforce, Sunway University College became Sunway University in January 2011 – a well respected name in private higher education in Southeast Asia.

Our story, which began with the Sunway College in the 1980s, continues with the Sunway College of the 21st century with its flag-ship offerings of internationally recognised pre-university and professional accounting programmes as well as undergraduate twinning degree and MBA programmes with a well recognised Australian university.

Professional Accounting Programmes:

The award-winning Sunway-TES is also an integral part of Sunway College. Sunway-TES offers programmes of study leading to the globally recognised ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountant) and CAT (Certified Accounting Technician) professional accounting qualifications, as well as the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) and ACA (Associate Chartered Accountant) credentials.

Twinning & MBA Programmes:

Victoria University (VU) in Melbourne, Australia, has had a long history of partnership with Sunway dating back to 1987. This strong academic partnership continues at Sunway College today, with offerings that include the VU Bachelor of Business twinning and MBA programmes being popular options that are well recognised by employers and industry.

Sunway College also offers a range of well established English language proficiency programmes that have been specifically designed to equip students with English language and communication skills necessary for academic success as well as employment and career development. Sunway College continues to provide holistic education and nurture students to be critical thinkers and socially responsible citizens.

Sunway College and Sunway University are part of the Sunway Education Group and are fully owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation. The Foundation which was launched in March 2010 operates upon the philosophy of the Founder, Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah, who is passionate about giving back to the community via education, and this has been done for many years via the Sunway Education Trust Fund that was set up in the 1990s. Sunway College channels its surpluses back to the Foundation which in turn provides scholarships and financial support to deserving students. Over 100 million in scholarships has been disbursed to-date by the Foundation. The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation champions the spirit of giving back to society and the belief that education transforms lives. And, every student and staff at Sunway College is able to contribute in the same way by virtue of the simple fact that we are a part of the Sunway community.
