Laughter is the best medicine. Sitcoms or Situation Comedies belong to a genre of comedy featuring characters that share a common environment like a home or a workplace. A staple of mainstream television entertainment, there is never a lack of good sitcom writers and good sitcom scripts.
This unit focuses on writing for a situational comedy (sitcom), with an emphasis on technical knowledge and how to use tools and methods to create humourous situations and dialogue. Participants will acquire the basis know-how in developing a concept for a sitcom pilot, creating a story for an episode, and writing an episodic script.

- Understand the three-act structure of storytelling
- Develop characters, arcs and the series bible
- Understand the mechanics of humour
- Develop a concept for a sitcom pilot that has commercial potential to television stations
- Develop a story for an episode of a sitcom to meet the requirements of the series
- Write the sitcom script to meet the requirements of the series
