In line with the Singapore Government's ongoing effort to support and nurture innovative interactive and Digital Media (IDM) content and industry development through the Singapore Media Fusion Plan (SMFP), Singapore Media Academy is product to launch the WSQ Specialist Diploma in Interactive Media (Business Management).
This is the first interactive media business management specialist diploma offered in Singapore that is aligned to the competency-based learning Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) framework. Developed and delivered by industry experts, this WSQ Specialist Diploma aims to provide participants with the fundamental knowledge, skills and competencies to jumpstart, manage and successfully grow their IDM related business.

OUTLINE
The WSQ Specialist Diploma in Interactive Media (Business Management) consists of six units of study.
UNIT 1
DEVELOP AND MANAGE STRATEGIC PLAN FOR A DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCT
This unit describes the intricate process of developing an interactive digital media product with a strategic outlook. Participants will be taught the necessary steps in developing strategic business plans for a digital media product that meets the needs of clients, audience or organisation. Sales and marketing aspects are also discussed, which will include analysing competitive forces, effective positioning, product promotion and monetisation.
UNIT 2
SELECT NEW TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS FOR BUSINESS
This unit analyses the various new technology platforms available today in the market. This knowledge is compounded with detailed research on the needs for new technology. Participants will be able to make a well-informed decision in implementing an appropriate digital media platform that is aligned to the strategic needs of the client, audience or organisation.
UNIT 3
MANAGE IP AT A STRATEGIC LEVEL
This unit provides a good understanding of Intellectual Property (IP) and how to protect your business investments through a well-planned IP strategy. Participants will learn to adopt an IP business ethos that is focused on a strong foundation covering legal measures that protect IPs, incorporating IP into business strategies and defining internal policies & processes to manage IP.
UNIT 4
DEVELOP AND MANAGE BUDGETS AND FINANCIAL PLANS
This unit examines budgets and financial plans within the interactive media context. Participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to finance, fund and manage the financial plan of a digital media product. Topics explored include forecasting and assessing risks that are typically involved in a volatile business landscape.
UNIT 5
DIRECT THE PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN AND COMMUNICATION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCT
This unit explains the principles of design and communication, imparting important design project management tools to develop an aesthetically pleasing, functional and customer-centric digital media product. Participants will learn to be adept at the development process and be familiar with style guidelines & design personas.
UNIT 6
MANAGE THE USE OF ANALYTICS AND DEVELOP DATA STRATEGIES
This unit explores the use of analytics to develop data strategies in performance measurement, management and optimisation of a digital media product. Participants will be exposed to the performance measurement framework and the analytics framework, which forms the basic foundation in deriving data strategies closely aligned with business objectives and goals. Other topics reviewed include web metrics, search engine optimisation, execution and evaluation of the strategies.
ASSESSMENT
All units will conclude with a compulsory assessment. Assessment may include role plays, quizzes, assignments, projects, and written examinations. Participants need to achieve at least 75% attendance for each unit before they are allowed to sit for the assessment.
CERTIFICATE
Participants will receive a WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) upon successful completion of each unit and its assessment.
Completion of all the required units will qualify candidates for the WSQ Specialist Diploma in Interactive Media (Business Management) under the Creative Industries Workforce Skills Qualification (CI WSQ) framework.
Participants will also receive a Certificate of Attendance issued by Singapore Media Academy for each unit completed.
CLASS SIZE
Maximum of 20 Students
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum GCE 'O' Level or equivalent; and
- Pass in GCE 'O' Level English or equivalent
For applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements may still apply and will be considered based on:
- At least 1-year working experience in any industry; OR
- Oral interview or evaluation test by SMA to determine suitability for the course.
