A successful presentation relies not just on the content, but also how the content is delivered. Losing an audience may be attributed to a variety of reasons, including disorganised material, poor public speaking and failure to respond to audience’s reactions. Successful presenters know what the audience looks for in a presentation and deliver it in the right way to achieve impact.
This unit covers the planning and preparing for a presentation. Participants will become familiarised with the process of developing content for a presentation, and be taught time proven skills in the delivery, including evaluating the material, public speaking and sensing the audience’s response, in order to achieve optimum audience engagement and understanding.

- Identify your purpose, audience and the medium
- Collect information and materials required for the presentation
- Acquire tips for audience understanding
- Create slides, overheads, tapes, brochures, pamphlets and pitching document
- Present information in a clear, logical and interesting way
- Use appropriate public speaking techniques
- Encourage audience participation, where possible
- Monitor and respond to audience needs, reactions and adjust presentation
- Review presentation to see how well it meets the requirements
- Identify strengths and weaknesses of the presentation
