Course details
This training provides basic skills in flat pattern drafting and operational sewing processes. With basic knowledge in drafting and sewing, participants can progress to making patterns and sewing tops and skirts. It covers sewing machine operations and sewing techniques for medium-weight woven fabric. The drafting involve technical methods in construction of various kinds of skirts and tops.
This unit is delivered through white board drafting, demonstration, quarter scale drafting and hands-on sewing operations.
OBJECTIVES
- Identify the pattern pieces, sewing operations bulletin and/or processes required to construct the garment in accordance with industry standards.
- Interpret draft, cut and sew a basic tee and pull-on shorts based on a given size specification through basic pattern block using manipulation methods based on industrial practices.
- Interpret basic garment construction to mass production of pattern development, grading and marker production based on industry practice.
- Use the sewing machine to sew a garment based on industry standards.
- Evaluate product outcomes and take corrective actions.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
Possess at least 3 GCE “O” level passes including English and Mathematics or ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 5 and above.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Participant will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) provided he/she meets the following requirements:
- 75% attendance rate
- Assessed to be competent in given competency standard
CERTIFICATE ISSUANCE
Upon succcessful completion of the course, trainee will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA). WSQ Certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
