Course details

This course covers installing lighting fixtures and infrastructure according to the requirements of the gaffer or a lighting rig plan.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Assess requirements for lighting based on the lighting plan and the venue where the production is staged.
  • Attach lighting equipment using accessories and mounting equipment in the required position as outlined in the lighting plan, or from verbal directions.
  • Attach structures to existing buildings to support lighting needs for a television, film or live event production.
  • Follow health and safety procedures as outlined in health and safety legislation for the region where the production is taking place.
  • Prepare and operate discharge luminaire systems while following safety guidelines.
  • Inform performers and production staff about the safe use of lighting equipment.
  • Install wiring for practicals and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Prepare battery lighting equipment and systems in a safe manner.
  • Light the production according to the lighting plan.
