Course details
Journalists are expected to gather and report news, current event and trends in an objective and unbiased way, in the process serving the public good. This course is a comprehensive introduction to broadcasting utilising lectures, good discussion, viewing excerpts of news broadcasts and features and field assignments, fusing theory with practical applications, with emphasis on inpidual writing.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- To develop the ability to analyze and critique completed productions
- To learn the basic principles involved in the television production process
- To understand and perform the various roles associated with television production
- To understand the process of researching the story, identifying the news angle, identifying appropriate video shots
- To identify an appropriate location for the shoot, shooting the interview, recording material with a news camera crew or as a solo operation
- To shoot the supporting video content, creating media log, preparing story edit script
- To write, narrate and record voice over in broadcast quality style
- To edit and finalize the story to be aired
