In line with the government’s ongoing efforts to raise the skills sets of the media professionals in the creative industries, this WSQ Diploma in Film & Television (Production) prepares new entrants to be equipped with the necessary skills to enter the industry or for existing media professionals to deepen their expertise and gain recognition of their skills set through this qualification programme
Developed and delivered by industry practitioners, this WSQ Diploma aims to equip the participants with the fundamental knowledge, skills and competencies to work with production crew and lead a Television or Film production.
WSQ Diploma in Film & Television (Production) is aligned to the WDA's Creative Industries WSQ framework as part of its efforts to address the manpower challenges and tackle the evolving skills and manpower demands of the Creative Industries.

OUTLINE
The WSQ Diploma in Film & Television (Production) consists of eight units of study.
UNIT 1
PLAN THE PRODUCTION BUDGET, SCHEDULE AND METHODS OF DELIVERY
This unit covers planning of the production budget for a film production. The skills include planning of the production budget, the production schedule and the main methods of delivery, managing and monitoring on-going production expenditure whilst balancing creative expectations; and working knowledge of reporting procedures and the various strategies for revising financial targets and performance.
UNIT 2
PLAN AND MANAGE LOCATIONS
This unit covers identifying what is needed to select and prepare the locations for filming. It is about negotiating with location owners and ensuring that location details are made known to all relevant people. It involves knowing the legislation that covers contracts and filming in public places (ability to source for up-to-date info). It is about providing appropriate signage for the location, making sure that the necessary equipment is available and putting security arrangements in place.
UNIT 3
COORDINATES FILM OR TELEVISION CAMERA REQUIREMENTS ON A PRODUCTION SHOOT
This unit explains the entire process of coordinating shooting requirements. Areas of interest include understanding the inter-relationship of the various camera crew roles, participants can expect to adopt practices in preparing for a shoot, completing the work operations, supervising crew and wrapping up the production.
UNIT 4
ASSIST THE DIRECTOR IN THE CO-ORDINATION OF ALL PRODUCTION ACTIVITY, AND SUPERVISE THE CAST AND CREW
This unit covers assisting the director in the coordination of all production activity, and supervising the cast and crew. The skills include creating a shooting schedule; overseeing the hiring of locations, props and equipment; checking weather reports; and, liaising between the director and the production office.
UNIT 5
SET-UP LIGHTS TO ACHIEVE THE DESIRED TECHNICAL AND AESTHETIC REQUIREMENTS OF A SHOOT
This unit covers the selection, setup and operation of appropriate lighting design and lighting equipment to meet production’s requirement. The skills include selecting the appropriate lighting design and equipment; briefing others about the design; and modifying and manipulating the lights to achieve lighting objectives.
UNIT 6
DEVISE CAMERA ANGLES AND COVERAGE WITH THE DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY/ CAMERAMAN AND DIRECTOR TO MAXIMISE DRAMATIC EFFECT
This unit covers planning the camera positions and angles that will be used in filming. The skills include creating a shot plan/storyboard; and, conveying the plan to relevant staff.
UNIT 7
MANAGE AUDIO EQUIPMENT FOR A RECORDING SESSION
This unit covers managing audio equipment in a studio setting. The skills include determining audio equipment required based on the purpose and type of recording; supervising the set up and testing in preparation for a recording session followed by monitoring the audio quality during the recording.
UNIT 8
MANAGE POST PRODUCTION PROCESS FOR A PROJECT TO ENSURE A COHERENT AND INTEGRATED PRODUCTION
This unit covers agreeing, coordinating and supervising the post-production process whilst delegating key activities as appropriate. The skills include understanding technical processes involving editing, and all appropriate effects (sound and/or visual) in order to be able to supervise and guide decisions taken by the technical and creative teams, negotiating creative, technical or contractual disputes, and resolving disputes in line with the degree of control belonging to the financiers is essential, as well as fully supporting the creative team at all opportunities.
ASSESSMENT
All units will cumulate in a compulsory assessment component. Assessments may include role plays, quizzes, assignments, projects, and written examinations.
CERTIFICATE
Students will be awarded the WSQ Diploma in Film & Television (Production) study from the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) upon successful completion of all required units.
CLASS SIZE
Maximum of 20 Students
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum GCE 'N' Level or equivalent; and
- Pass in GCE 'N' Level English or equivalent
For applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements may still apply and will be considered based on:
- At least 1-year working experience in any industry; OR
- Oral interview or evaluation test by SMA to determine suitability for the course.
