In the fast-paced retailing and quick-turnaround world of fashion where change of designs and colours takes place almost on a bi-monthly basis, the designer or product developer has to be able to create a collection within the shortest possible lead time.
Develop Design Collection takes an in-depth look at the inspirational and practical aspect of the creation of a design collection. Based on the understanding of the history of fashion, international designers, brand profiles, the latest looks from the runway shows and forecast reports, it leads to the conceptualising of a collection, creating of size specifications, overseeing the production of samples to the final fruition of a complete look all within a given scope.
This unit is delivered through lectures, discussions, class activities, field trips and presentations.
OBJECTIVES
- Analyse runway shows, forecast information, directional trends and target market’s lifestyle and mindset changes.
- Learn how to conceptualise collection based on forecasted trends/ runway and/or researched target market.
- Learn how to create design boards and production drawing based on forecasted trends and/or on researched target market.
- Learn how to create technical packages according to industry or organisational practices, policies and procedures.
- Learn how to supervise the production of sample garments and/or accessories according to technical specifications and to make amendments if there is any non compliance.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
Possess at least 3 GCE “O” level credit including English and Mathematics or ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 5 and above.
Students are required to have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office especially for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook as this will be required during projects / group work.
