Course details
This course provides the participant with the foundation in pattern development and garment construction of tops at an advanced level.
Participants will learn to take body measurements, understand the various sleeve and neckline variations and how to develop patterns and construct the tops with variations of collar, neckline and sleeve.
The participants will master the techniques of laying fabric, cutting, sewing, edging and finishing of the complicated tops.
This unit is delivered through white board drafting, quarter scale drafting, demonstrations and hands-on sewing operations.
OBJECTIVES
- Draft paper pattern blocks from given size specifications.
- Develop a variety of patterns for tops with variations of collar, neckline and sleeve.
- Learn to label and mark individual pattern pieces with symbols and notches.
- Sew a top with variation of sleeve and necklines.
- Evaluate sewn product against given specifications or measurements.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
Possess at least 3 GCE “O” level credit including English and Mathematics or ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 5 and above.
Student needs prior knowledge of following modules
- WSQ Analyze Garment Construction
- WSQ Interpret Pattern Draft and Sewing Sequence of Apparel
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Participant will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) provided he/she meets the following requirements:
- 75% attendance rate
- Assessed to be competent in given competency standard
CERTIFICATE ISSUANCE
Upon succcessful completion of the course, trainee will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA). WSQ Certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
