Course details
The course covers the understanding the operations and limitations of the equipment framing and composing moving pictures for film, television or video; empathising with production requirements and having an appreciation of the artistic and practical aspects of the production; coordinating with others in order to achieve the desired results; monitoring the technical and aesthetic quality of the image; understanding the different workflows of acquisition to delivery of the production; elevating and tracking a camera by the camera operator; interpreting the production's needs in order to provide safe movements of the camera mounting; assisting the cameraman in fitting the Steadicam harness and operating the Steadicam; laying a simple track for camera dollies; assessing the suitability of the surface that the track will be used on, and the type of track relative to the size and weights to be carried; and, assessing any risks and preventing any damage to surfaces or track.

- Basic camera framing and movement aesthetics
- Basic camera operation and maintenance
- Basic technique for laying track and/or dollying
- Application of basic lighting and audio techniques for moving shoots
- Operating techniques to obtain the requested effect for shots, as per the needs of post- production
- Acquisition in a production workflow, and how operation decisions made during production can affect post-production
- Proper health and safety protocols for moving heavy equipment
