    Course details

    This course provides occupational knowledge and skills of various techniques and concepts in garment construction. It covers the understanding of garment construction, seams and stitches utilization in different components within the garment, thus reducing redundant designs that cannot be replicated in mass production, eliminating misinterpretation in sampling and production to improving communication in production specifications.

    This course is delivered through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on activities

    OBJECTIVES

    Identify, describe and demonstrate/illustrate the various stitches and seams with reference to the ASTM D 6193 standard.

    Relate functional and decorative stitches to the types of sewing machines.

    Identify and illustrate various pattern pieces and constructions (seam and stitch)

    •  Collar and neckline construction (e.g. inset, bound seam, facing method, etc.)
    •  Garment closure construction (e.g. exposed zipper, concealed zipper)

    ENTRY REQUIREMENT

    Possess at least 3 GCE “O” level passes including English and Mathematics or ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 5 and above

    GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

    Participant will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) provided he/she meets the following requirements:

    • 75% attendance rate
    • Assessed to be competent in given competency standard

    CERTIFICATE ISSUANCE

    Upon succcessful completion of the course, trainee will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA). WSQ Certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
