    Workplace Literacy (Writing) is designed to equip learners with the ability to read and write English, providing them with a range of portable skills and knowledge essential for work and self-sufficiency.

    The programme includes Reading and Writing. 

    Beginner

    This programme is designed for those who are competent in reading, speaking and listening at a Higher Beginner-Lower Intermediate level but weak in writing, especially in the area of spelling and basic sentence constructions. Learners will be taught basic grammar and sets of vocabularies in various contexts which would enable them to write in a clear, simple and factually correct manner, both in descriptive and narrative writing style.  

    Intermediate

    This programme includes many kinds of reading selections in varying degree of reading difficulty. Learners will expand their vocabulary, demonstrate understanding of business-related communications, identify relevant data, facts and instructions appropriately from simple to moderately complex texts, learn reading strategies for more self-learning, and enhance their reading and thinking skills. It also covers writing skills in a step-by-step process, from spelling and writing mechanics, grammar and sentence structure, vocabulary and word choice, organization to content. At the end of this programme, learners will be able to analyze and respond to situations in the business and work context by writing in continuous English business-related communications.

    Advanced

    This programme is suitable for learners who have attained Level 5 Competency in WPL Reading and Writing. At the end of this course, learners will have improved their employability because they will be able to interpret and generate workplace material such as logs, forms and reports.

    Mode of Delivery: 

    The programme is designed in an interactive and participative manner, with an application-based approach towards learning. Different learning methodologies such as lectures, pair work, role plays, group activities, presentations, listening exercises, quizzes, and experiential learning are used the programme. Learners will also be trained to respond with greater spontaneity and depth to the various workplace settings.

    Assessment & Examination:

    The WSQ programs are mainly assessment based via projects and assignments. Learners are required to do formative assessment during class and end of class summative assessment. The assessment plans are pre-approved by the QAD of WDA before implementation. If a student’s attendance fail to meet the minimum requirements stipulated by WDA (75%), the student is be debarred from assessments.

    The test for Reading is computer adaptive and the test for Writing is computer based. All tests are designed and managed by WDA.
