    Course details

    This course provides fundamental training in Western Painting media. We adopt a systematic approach based on our sequential training. In order to help applicants understand art concepts in multi-chromatic compositional studies, they are encouraged to take up all the short courses. Students will start with drawing to grasp the concepts of line, shape, value and texture in monochromatic compositional studies. Painting with watercolour will provide the training in basic colour theory. Students will be equipped with these foundation skills to prepare themselves for the oil painting short courses.

    Terms and conditions

    • Students will be presented a Certificate upon successful completion of all 4 short courses and passing all required assessment.

    COURSE MODULES

    Western Art 1 - Drawing

    This is an introduction to drawing, which strengthens the student’s observational skills. The emphasis is through practices of rendering subjects like statues and still life objects accurately using pencil. Students will apply these skills in composing an imaginative drawing of their own.

    Western Art 2 - Watercolour Painting

    To emphasize the essential principles of water based painting and to help in the understanding of skills needed in handing the watercolour.

    Western Art 3 - Oil Painting I 

    This course focuses on developing drawing and painting techniques, utilising a variety of wet and dry materials. Students will experience working from life, observational and their imagination using pencil and oil paint.

    Western Art 4 - Oil Painting II

    Students will explore and discover techniques and concepts that will allow for maximum input from them. These processes allow students to work towards the end product, through emphasis on compositional layout and control of techniques, giving space for spontaneity and creativity.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must be 17 years old & above.

    Prerequisites for registration of short courses

    • For Western Art 2, applicants need to complete Western Art 1 (within a year)
    • For Western Art 3, applicants need to complete Western Art 1 & 2 (within a year)
    • For Western Art 4, applicants need to complete Western Art 1,2 & 3 (within a year)
